Cheminement académique

Mark Purdon est professeur agrégé au Département de stratégie, responsabilité sociale et environnementale de l'École des sciences de la gestion (ESG) de l'Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), où il a été titulaire de la Chaire sur la décarbonisation. Titulaire d'un doctorat en science politique, il travaille dans le domaine de la politique comparée du changement climatique et possède une expérience de recherche dans les pays développés et en développement sur le financement de la lutte contre le changement climatique, la politique industrielle verte, les énergies renouvelables, les transports, la sylviculture et l'aménagement du territoire. Ses travaux sur la gouvernance climatique mondiale s'appuient sur le réalisme néoclassique pour expliquer les dynamiques de coopération et de concurrence dans la politique climatique internationale. Ses travaux appliqués comprennent des activités de conseil auprès de comités législatifs, d'organismes de réglementation et d'agences publiques, au Canada et à l'étranger, concernant les marchés du carbone, le financement climatique et la politique énergétique. Son livre The Political Economy of Climate Finance Effectiveness in Developing Countries a été publié chez Oxford University Press en 2024, et il est coéditeur de l'ouvrage Carbon Federalism: Canadian Climate Governance in a Changing World dont la publication est prévue aux éditions University of Toronto Press.

Mark Purdon is Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy, Social and Environmental Responsibility at the School of Management (ESG), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where he has held the Chair on Decarbonization. With a PhD in political science, he works in comparative climate change politics, with research experience in developed and developing countries on climate finance, green industrial policy, renewable energy, transportation, forestry and land use. His work on global climate governance draws on neoclassical realism to explain patterns of cooperation and competition in international climate politics. His applied work includes advising legislative committees, regulators, and public agencies in Canada and abroad on carbon markets, climate finance and energy policy. His book The Political Economy of Climate Finance Effectiveness in Developing Countries was published by Oxford University Press in 2024, and he is co-editor of Carbon Federalism: Canadian Climate Governance in a Changing World, under contract with University of Toronto Press.

Mark Purdon a été directeur général de l'Institut québécois du carbone (IQCarbone) de 2015 à 2022. Mark Purdon was Executive Director of the Institut québécois du carbone (IQCarbone) from 2015-2022. His applied work includes advising legislative committees, regulators, and public agencies in Canada and abroad on carbon markets and climate finance.
