Projets de recherche et/ou de recherche-création en cours

  • Chaire de Recherche du Canada (CRC) en connaissance et transmission de la langue inuite

    La langue inuite est parlée dans l'Arctique nord-américain, de l'Alaska, à travers l'Arctique canadien au Groenland. Les dialectes canadiens subissent la pression des langues coloniales et plusieurs d'entre eux perdent des locuteurs ou risquent de disparaitre. Outre la profonde signification socioculturelle que possède la langue pour les Inuits, sa structure est aussi révélatrice des propriétés du langage humain. Par exemple, ses mots sont particulièrement complexes et peuvent encoder l'équivalent des phrases complètes dans d'autres langues. Ces recherches collaboratrices avec des communautés contribueront à documenter et revitaliser la langue, tout en analysant sa grammaire unique, afin de mieux comprendre comment les langues humaines peuvent varier.
